Fast = Thin

It is a virtuous cycle. It is self perpetuating. It has a snow ball effect.

The more we show up, the better our conditioning. As we get into better shape, we are able to handle a quicker pace. In a workout like today's when we are hammering a quicker pace, the up tempo, higher intensity creates a higher calorie burn. The body is done burning sugar after the first 35 minutes. The final 25 minutes, the body is burning FAT. The more fat we burn, the thinner we get. The lighter we are on our feet, the easier it is to handle a faster pace. Faster paces = higher burn = less fat = faster paces.
