Beat that Drum

Imagining his eulogy, King used the conditional tense: “If you want to say that I was a drum major, say that I was a drum major for justice. Say that I was a drum major for peace. I was a drum major for righteousness. And all of the other shallow things will not matter.”

We beat the drum for Daily Exercise. Daily Exercise is a fix all. Daily Exercise helps us to sleep better. Gives us a good appetite and helps with digestion. Exercise clears our heads when we are suffering from a cold. Daily Exercise reduces the effects of stress. Daily Exercise increases energy levels so we can do more during the day. Outdoor exercise keeps us connected to the biorhythm of this planet. Daily exercise keeps us grounded and connected to our humble primal instinct.

Daily Exercise increases strength, stamina, flexibility, speed, power, sex appeal and much more.

We eat and sleep every day. Exercise should be a part of that routine.

Ask your employer tp pay for Boot Camp

Study: Workplace wellness programs help cut healthcare costs
The real motivator for Americans to get fit at work isn't smaller jeans - it's a bigger bank balance.Employees enrolled in workplace wellness programs report reduced personal healthcare costs, most commonly because of fitness center discounts and free preventative screenings, according to the findings of a survey by Principal Financial Group. While the survey does not quantify the dollar amount saved per employee, Principal's research does attempt to do so on the corporate level.

Survey results show that employers who invest in wellness programs see increased employee retention, attendance, and productivity. The numbers show that medical costs improve "by an average of $3.27 and absenteeism costs improve by an average of $2.73 for every dollar spent on wellness."

Thus far, large corporations have led the charge."We get gym discounts, and flu shots in-house. Our health insurance coverage is also quite good. But I couldn't imagine a large corporation not providing group health insurance benefits to employees," Sheri Appel, treasury director for Swiss Re, a global reinsurance company, tells CNBC.

According to Principal Financial's survey, small- and mid-size businesses are trying to catch up: Just ask their employees.Of the 1,121 wellness program participants surveyed, over half said they are more productive as a result; 40% agreed that wellness programs encourage them to stay with their company, and more than a third said they have missed fewer days of work.

While it's a step in the right direction, the employees also voiced discontent. The most common wellness benefit employers provide is online information."There is a misalignment. Most employers offer online wellness information, and educational resources. Employees want more hands-on, tangible rewards, like access to nutritionists, and onsite fitness facilities," says Lee Dukes, president of Principal Wellness Company, a subsidiary of Principal Financial.

3 Peaks in Garden Hills

What started as a harmless Garden Hills loop this morning took the high road 3 times.

Frank Shorter, Olympic Gold Medalist said "hills are speedwork in disguise." Hills & Stairs are the cornerstone to the winter months Base Building. Base Building is the laying of a solid foundation. This foundation combines strength and stamina. Once the key components of strength and stamina are laid in concrete, the structure of SPEED can be erected.

As the days lengthen and warm, we will quicken the paces into a traditional "sharpening" for peak race performance. In the meantime, our legs will feel heavy and dull as we climb hills and stairs.

For those who feel like the workouts have been too easy, try making 5 in a row for 6 weeks in a row.

MLK Day 5K

Zy'derryo is Desire's grilfriend's grandson. Desire is a Back on My feet Runner. He has embraced the BoMF running program and is getting in shape

Desire lives in the Gateway Center here in Atlanta. Despite having a minimum wage job at Marshalls where he has to work late many nights, he always makes the 5:45AM runs required by Back on My Feet.

Desire was looking forward to the MLK Day 5K. He was so excited about the race, he purchased a registration for Zy'derryo.

After Saturdays BoMF run, Desire mentioned that Zy'derryo said he had a "school project" and could not make the race. . We figured road racing was new to Zy'derryo and he was nervous. We agreed that Zy'derryo was not going to be allowed to back out.

Zy'derryo ran the MLK Day 5K. It was his first ever road race and he loved it. Thanks to Desire for bringing him.

Another great family story from MLK Day 5K
